About Me

Joanna Mercuri, LPC, is a licensed psychotherapist with a lifelong photography hobby. Professionally, her work focuses on eating disorders, trauma, and the intersection of religion, spirituality, and psychology. Artistically, her photos explore motherhood in all its mundanity and profundity—a motif of convenience, owing to how many young humans she is rearing these days. This artistic strategy of “work with what you’ve got” extends even to her camera equipment. Though she plans to treat herself to a Canon for her 40th birthday, for now she’s making it work on an iPhone so old that she exhales with relief each time it survives a software update.

Jersey-born-and-raised, Joanna spent ten years living, working, and training in New York City before relocating to Pennsylvania with her family. In her nonexistent free time, she works to convince her spouse that it is reasonable and feasible to procure an MFA in creative nonfiction as her next artistic venture
